I live in Grand Rapids, just down the street from the SoS/Police building that exploded. A few friends of mine were talking about it and all I could think of was “Yeah, that was hectic.....but I lived through the Flint firebombings/arson spree in the early 2010s soooo... yeah, I’ve een worse”.
It got overshadowed by the water crisis, but about two years before that hit, people started protesting both the mayor, Do n WIlliamson, and the repeated slashing of public service funds for fire departments and police force. It hit a head when people started setting fire to abandoned homes and buildings. I’ll never forget the day I went out on a quick grocery run and ended up having to take a two hour detour since so many buildings were on fire and the gangs were still roaming around.
So yeah, I’m not surprised that Fl int of all places are where the cops are saying “You know what? Fuck this shit!”

God knows Flint has had more than its share of problems, for a long time. But it’s nice to see this bit of fresh air between both the police and community.

Impressive. The last time I recall some local sheriffs making public statements, they were flamboyantly bleating about refusing to enforce the governor’s lawful ‘rona regulations (might as well refuse to do your job when you’re unfireable with cradle to grave job security and a golden retirement awaiting you long before normal working people could dream of such without a lottery jackpot).

Its not just sheriffs. Literally all law enforcement said they were not going to enforce it. My city cops even the state boys dont care

For many, t he only laws that count are related to immigration and abortion, and maybe marriage.
Here, one whined about “discretion”, which had me thinking what would happen if we all used “discretion” when observing speed limits in his unearned little fiefd om.
